Visiting London – top tips

Hundreds of thousands of tourists flock to London each year for a true slice of classic British culture. With so many sights to see and so many things to do, it is vital you plan your trip thoroughly. Here are our top tips for visiting London:

The Tube

On visiting London, most people feel daunted by the tube, with fears of getting the wrong train and ending up in the complete wrong location clouding most people’s vision. In reality though, it is actually fairly simple to work out.

The Transport for London website offers a journey planner that will generate the quickest and easiest route to your destination. There are apps you can download too, like London Underground Tube Map, so you’ll always know where you’re going.

If you’re a technophobe, make sure you pick up a tube map from a tube station so you can plan your journeys the traditional way.

When it comes to tube fares, and you are planning on making lots of tube journeys, it may be worth buying a day ticket. An oyster card – a top-up travel card – may also be worth checking out if you are in London for a while.

Accommodation

You can often find that hotels located in the popular areas of central London are considerably more expensive than those situated on the outskirts.

London is famed for its excellent transport links, from the speedy tubes to the iconic red double-decker buses. With such reliable transport available, a hotel further afield can save you money whilst also remaining workable.

If you are visiting for a week or longer, you may be better off booking a short let apartment in London. These can often be cheaper than hotels and are available in a number of central locations.

Theatre

No visit to London would be complete without a trip to the bright lights of the West End.

Theatre tickets can often be expensive, so finding the best deals is a must. Look online before you head to the box office, as most internet retailers offer discounts.

Additionally, unsold seats can be reduced on the day of the performance, so it is sometimes worth popping along to the box office to see what’s on offer.

Many theatre companies have partnered with local restaurants to bring you theatre and dinner packages. By combining the two, you can have a great evening out while saving some cash in the process.
