Tips For A Truly Romantic Break In Crete

If you’re thinking about taking your loved one away for a romantic week in the sun, you’ve probably already begun trying to find the perfect location. Sure you could head to Spain or Italy, but those countries are either too crowded or too expensive, so we really think that you should consider the Greek islands.

As Mediterranean resorts go, Crete is one of the most luxurious, and most importantly; private locations in Europe. It’s beautiful sandy beaches and friendly residents make this place pull in thousands of upmarket visitors each and every year.

This guide will fill you in on everything you need to know about when spending a romantic break on the island.

Where To Visit

For those who like long romantic walks and fantastic scenery, you probably want to head down towards the white mountains. You’ll find no better way of staying away from tourists and being at one with nature. A trek through the mountains can take up to 5 hours, so make sure you plan your day accordingly. Also, it’s probably a good idea to make sure you have a shuttle or taxi booked from Heraklion to whichever location you’re visiting first, as public transport is known to sometimes be rather unreliable.

For couples who want to experience some authentic Greek culture, why not plan a visit to the Samaria gorge (the largest gorge in Europe in Crete’s gorgeous national forest). Here you’ll be able to opt for guided tours or even spend a few hours sitting by one of the islands many pristine, clean water lakes.

Where To Stay

Although this island has lots of nice hotels, if you really want to stay away from other tourists (and their noisy children), booking a room at the “Out Of The Blue” resort is probably very wise. Admittedly it’s somewhat expensive, but it’s adults only accommodation so that should mean noise levels are kept to a minimum, allowing you and your partner to enjoy each other’s company without too many unwanted distractions.

Alternatively, maybe you should get in touch with the people who deal with bookings at the Aquila Elounda Village Hotel. This place also only caters for adults (which is obviously a bonus), but as the hotel is just a short jaunt away from Spinalonga island, you’re sure to find something exciting to do every single day.

Where To Eat

You’ll probably want nice, posh, romantic restaurants right? Well, lucky for you, Crete has these on almost every street. If you really want to push the boat out, consider booking a table at the world famous Milos Tou Kerata in Platanias where you’ll find some of the most talented chefs on the island. Alternatively, if you’re looking to save some cash but still want a fantastic meal, maybe you should think about visiting Terzakis in Heraklion, as this place produced quality food for around a third of the price.

So there you have it my holidaymaking friends. A quick and simple guide to taking a romantic break on the Greek island of Crete. We hope you’ve found this article useful.

Have fun!
