If You’re Not Doing it Online, You’re Wasting Time and Money

When you take a peep into the life of someone who has been doing this travelling thing from way back when, when there was no internet to pretty much organise every last aspect of your trip, you can only admire their true traveller’s spirit which had them making it happen no matter what. Those are the pioneers of travel — well we’re not counting the prehistoric explorers as those were probably under instruction…

These pioneering leisure travellers have to be admired even more when you think about just what it takes to plan a trip, even today, aided by the wonderful World Wide Web! Where there’s a will there’s a way however, so they might not have had Google Maps and other navigation tools like we have today, but they made it happen with physical city maps, tour guide books and the like. That’s perhaps also why travel agencies were thriving at some point as travellers probably didn’t have any other option other than to go through a travel agency to make their trip as safe and enjoyable as possible. It must have undoubtedly cost more as well, even just booking a ticket over the telephone incurred call fees as opposed to what is essentially a totally free way of booking these days, online.

So, all our respect goes to these pioneers of travel, but in this day and age if you’re not organising pretty much every single last aspect of your trip online, then you’re simply wasting money. I mean if you can complete a task such as buying tyres online then there’s no limit to what you can achieve as part of getting everything in order for your upcoming trip and let’s face it, the more money you can save, the better.

Obviously, you have to exercise some vigilance because you don’t want to get conned out of your money in any way, so some common precautions should be taken, such as only paying for services through reputable online platforms. Online agencies these days generally make their money out of referring travellers such as you, so that’s why they tend to be much cheaper than the traditional travel agencies of old.

Taking things beyond the desktop PC and onto your mobile phone, that perhaps still counts as doing it all online, such as when you’re organising your Uber via the Uber app or if you’re looking for a couch to spend the night on via apps/platforms such as Airbnb and Couchsurfing. Ultimately though, it comes down to being able to access the internet for free in many instances and then not even being charged a fee for booking directly or even for going through what are essentially online agencies.

So if you’re not doing it online, from booking your ticket to even booking your accommodation, then you’re really wasting money and as a traveller, you should be doing all you can to try and save as much money as possible.
