Head to Manchester for Chinese New Year

If there’s one thing the Chinese know how to do, it’s celebrate New Year. Not one evening, one day affair for them. It’s a 15 day mega party that will start on January 28th in 2017, the Year of the Rooster. The Manchester celebrations are the biggest in the UK.

Entertainment this year includes a 50 foot Golden Dragon as well as the food stalls and traditional performances. Visitors this year will get a chance to see the Lanterns of Terracotta Warriors. Over 40 of these colourful illuminated Chinese Warrior lanterns will be on display, so don’t forget your camera!

Celebrate Robbie Burns’ Birthday in Dumfries

Scotland is famous for many things apart from haggis and golf, one of them being the fact that a great poet and writer, Robert Burns was born in that country. Every year, on January 25th there are birthday celebrations all over the world for Mr. Burns.

The Dumfries event will include live music with Lulu and other talented musicians. Comedians and other performers will add to the variety of the celebrations. The annual Tam O’Shanter story is a ‘must see’ event as thousand line the streets to watch the story unfold.

A New Way to Show History – LEGO

In the Newcastle Life Science Centre some very creative LEGO builders have constructed some historical events such as the sinking of the Titanic, and the moon landing by Apollo 11. The Centre also has its famous Animal Inside Out exhibition but you need to hurry as that closes in a couple of days – January 8th.

Don’t forget to bring your skates as the Centre’s ice skating rink is open to everybody for a small charge.
